Denair to hold meeting about Dollar General coming to town

Two new Dollar General stores opened in Turlock in 2013.

POSTED January 3, 2014 7:32 p.m.

The small town of Denair may soon be home to a new Dollar General store.

On Tuesday, the Denair Municipal Advisory Committee will meet with representatives from the Stanislaus County Planning Department to discuss the plans for the proposed store.

The project location is currently proposed for the southwest side of Fresno Avenue, at the corner of Main Street next to the existing Quick Stop convenience store.

According to the Stanislaus County Planning Department, the project would see the rezoning of a 1.75-acre parcel to construct a 9,100-square foot Dollar General retail store and parking lot, while also improving nearby roads including new curbs, gutters and a sidewalk along the frontage. The property had been previously rezoned to permit a lumber yard, however, the project never came to fruition.

The project’s new parking lot would include 36 parking spaces, while adding sidewalks and associated utilities. Additionally, the development will include on-site retention that will improve current drainage conditions for the parcel.

The new Dollar General – which will offer various household items, food, cleaning supplies, basic apparel and health products – is expected to be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. The new retail store is expected to hire 12 employees, while bringing in an average of 2.5 truck deliveries a day.  With two Dollar Generals opening in Turlock in 2013, the Tennessee-based company has been continually expanding on the West Coast, adding to more than 10,000 stores nationwide.

The special meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Leadership Center of the Denair School District, located at 3460 Lester Road.
