‘Dogs lose by one

POSTED January 24, 2014 11:32 p.m.

Turlock High’s boys basketball team fell to the Atwater Falcons in Friday night’s Central California Conference bout in what resulted in a one point loss of 53-54.

“They hit big shots down the stretch but we had an open look at the corner with two seconds left and missed it,” Turlock head coach Doug Cornfoot said. “They played well, can’t take anything away from them, it was a very physical game, very physical.”

With Atwater playing at home, the Falcons' ability to feed off the home crowd helped as they were able to knock down back-to-back buzzer beaters in the final seconds of the first and second quarters to take the lead.

Four three pointers in the opening quarter gave the Falcons a 24-17 lead and after that it was a blood bath until the end Cornfoot said.

“Referees let us play and it was physical inside the paint,” Cornfoot said. “... they hit their shots when needed and we didn’t.”

Kenny Fraser topped out with 20 points and Demsen McFaddin tallied 16.
