The Turlock Christian girls’ basketball squad has now won five consecutive Southern Athletic League games, after defeating Delhi High on Saturday then taking down Gustine High on Monday night.

On Saturday, the Eagles hosted Delhi in their homecoming game at Cal State Stanislaus’ Fitzpatrick Arena in what ended in a 65-15 win over the Hawks.

“On Saturday, the girls played with confidence and it takes that to win, the girls were on, it was their best game so far,” Turlock Christian head coach Edwin Santiago said.

The Eagles earned payback —after losing earlier to the Redskins by a margin of 20 points—in Monday night’s SAL meeting, beating Gustine with a game winning shot from Victoria Vieira to pull out with a 56-54 victory.

“It was a great game to come back after a big loss and to be 2-0 in our new uniforms is awesome,” Santiago said.

In Saturday’s matchup, the Eagles and their new uniforms—which included last names on the back—were able to burst out against the struggling Hawks in what started and ended well for TC.

After the first quarter, the Eagles held a comfortable 15-5 lead which then extended to 31-11 after the second. The defense contained the Hawks from scoring a single point in the closing quarter to end the lopsided win.

TC senior Monique McMeechan hit her first three of four three point shots and finished her final homecoming game with 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.

“It was a positive experience all around, both boys and girls, it’s nice to win your homecoming,” Santiago said. “People were hitting shots, we made multiple three pointers after struggling; the girls played their best game with electricity and excitement. I don’t think anybody had doubts that they would play their game.”

Monday's game was a little more of a battle for the Eagles. TC found themselves down by four points starting the third and it wasn’t until the fourth when the Eagles were able to go on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 54 apiece.

Vieira took an inbound pass and saw an open shot in the corner and was able to sink the shot to take the lead and victory with seven seconds. The defense held on, making it five straight victories and six of the last seven for TC.

“[It was] a good win against Gustine; we just have to keep moving forward from here into league,” Santiago added.

TC’s McCalister Russell finished with a double-double in the game topping out with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Eagles will travel to play against Ripon Christian at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Next for Delhi will be a home match against Waterford at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
