Robbery conviction for Turlock man

Leobardo Ramos

POSTED February 13, 2014 1:48 p.m.

A Turlock man has been convicted on multiple robbery charges and has been sentenced to spend the next two decades in prison.

Leobardo Ramos, 23, of Turlock entered a no contest plea on Feb. 7 to two counts of robbery, both while using a firearm, and two counts of attempted robbery, the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday. All four counts are future strikes for Ramos under California’s “Three Strikes” law.

Judge Linda McFadden sentenced Ramos to a total of 20 years and 8 months in state prison. Ramos still faces three counts of robbery in Merced County arising from three robberies occurring in Atwater between Dec. 1 and Dec. 15, 2011.

On Nov. 22, 2011, Ramos entered AJ’s Market located on Coffee Road in Modesto and at gunpoint robbed the owner of the store, who placed cash from the cash register in a black, plastic bag and handed it to Ramos. Approximately an hour and a half later, Ramos entered the Little Caesar’s Pizza restaurant located on Standiford Avenue in Modesto. Wearing the same clothing he wore in the AJ’s robbery, and once again using a gun, he robbed the clerk and put the money in a black plastic bag, which matched the bag he’d used in the AJ’s robbery, according to court records.

About a month later, Ramos entered the Circle T Market located on Terminal Avenue in Riverbank. He pointed a rifle at the store clerk, Tallal Nasser, and demanded money. Tallal’s father, Amin Nasser, approached Ramos, disarmed him and wrestled him to the ground. The Nassers then held Ramos at gunpoint until Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and arrested Ramos.

Prior to the arrival of the deputies, Ramos admitted to the Nassers that he had committed the robbery of AJ’s Market, according to the district attorney’s office.

Ramos has remained in custody since this Dec. 21, 2011 arrest.
