Turlock Unified School District Trustee Dr. Harinder Grewal is adding his name to this November’s ballot, as he seeks to replace incumbent Kristin Olsen (R-Modesto) in the California State Assembly.

Running as a registered Democrat, Grewal will challenge Olsen for her seat representing California’s 12th Assembly District, which includes voters from parts of the San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties.

Being involved in numerous committees and organizations, such as the Keyes Municipal Advisory Council, TUSD Board of Trustees, the Stanislaus County Fair Board of Directors, and the Modesto City Equal Opportunity Commission, Grewal believes he has a myriad of experience that he believes will help him serve District 12 if elected to Assembly.

Carrying a Masters Degree and Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, and a second Masters in Business Administration, Grewal said he wishes to utilize his knowledge in agricultural issues to help make a difference in the Central Valley. Additionally, Grewal has served as the Senior Agricultural Weights and Measures Inspector with the Stanislaus County Department of Agriculture, and was a two-term President of the California Association of Standards and Agricultural Professionals.

During his time on the school board, Grewal has focused on fiscal responsibility, sustainability, and providing quality education to Turlock students.

Grewal has noted investing in public education as one of his goals if elected to serve in the Assembly, in addition to: infrastructure improvements, economic growth, job creation, helping small businesses, and promoting and protecting the Central Valley’s agriculture.

A husband and father to two children, Grewal has been living in the Turlock area since 2005, and a small businessman for more than two decades.
