Community Challenge to collect food, money for local kids

POSTED March 3, 2014 5:01 p.m.

Local Visalus distributor Shaun Larsen is partnering with the United Samaritans Foundation to collect canned food and raise money to help feed children in need.

Larsen is hosting a Vi-Community Challenge event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the new Smith Chevrolet Cadillac showroom, 1601 Auto Mall Dr. Turlock. Through this event,  Visalus will match donations dollar for dollar to purchase food that will be distributed through United Samaritans' feeding programs.

“Whether by way of low income or difficult family circumstance due to no fault of their own, many children throughout our county lack proper nutrition. There are too many children in this world who don’t have a fighting chance, because they don’t have the means to get the nutrition their bodies need,” United Samaritans Director of Fund Development Kathy Hobby said. “Good nutrition plays such an important role in succeeding at school, on the athletic field or simply to grow up to be a healthy adult."

The event will feature multiple vendor booths, entertainment and raffles, with all money earned going to put healthy meals into the hands of children in the local community. Local vendors that are participating in this event include: Scentsy, Yonique, Tupperware, Mary Kay, It Works, Premiere Jewelry, Momentus, 31 bags, Send Out Cards, For Tails only, Party Lite, Paperazzi, Tea, Visalus, Pampered Chef, Cynthia Flesher massages, Diane Angel photography, Donna Lazar interiors, Edward Jones, I am Yoga, Modern Solar, and more.

Each attendee will receive one free raffle ticket and  one raffle ticket for each canned food item, up to 10.

“From the beginning, Vi has been committed to making a difference, championing important causes that fulfill both our vision for a healthier planet and our mission for Taking Weight Off the World, Vi-Cares translates our desire to give by  creating a broad giving platform that empowers the Vi Community to collectively impact the health and lives of those who need it most,” said Larsen.
