The U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West is bringing their Commanders Jazz Ensemble to Turlock for a free concert.

The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. March 14 at the Turlock Community Theatre.

Under the direction of Master Sergeant Jeremiah True, The Commanders Jazz Ensemble carries on the American musical tradition of the great traveling big bands. The energetic group of highly-trained professional airmen-musicians plays everything from traditional jazz, cool, bop and swing to Broadway favorites, popular tunes, Latin rhythms, and patriotic music. The concert also will feature a tribute to the late Major Glenn Miller and his famous Army Air Corp band.

Touring the western states of California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Arizona, the U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West has performed for thousands of listeners in live concert appearances and for millions worldwide via its numerous recordings and television and radio broadcasts. In addition to the concerts, the 18-member ensemble visits colleges and schools throughout the region.

“They have recently been featured alongside the San Francisco Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra,” said Senior Airman Isaac Lamar. “We also just had a group return in December from a three month deployment. They did some incredible things over there for our troops.”

This concert is free, however tickets are required for admission. To get the free tickets, contact the Turlock Community Theatre's Box Office at 668-1169, or visit in person during regular box office hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.
