POSTED March 27, 2014 6:50 p.m.

A Turlock man was robbed Tuesday afternoon by two men, one armed with a knife, across the street from the Turlock Rural Fire Department.

The Turlock Police Department has arrested one suspect, identified as Peter Garcia, 22, of Turlock on a charge of robbery.

The robbery occurred around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, but was not reported until around 4:30 p.m. It happened in the 600 block of W. Canal, across from the fire house.

The male victim was walking westbound on W. Canal when he noticed two men coming up behind him. One of the men said something to him and when he turned around he was punched in the face, allegedly by Garcia.

The victim pulled out his cell phone and was calling 911 when Garcia knocked it out of his hand, Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis said.

Garcia grabbed the man’s wallet from his shirt pocket. The two struggled momentarily before Garcia pulled a knife out and threatened to “stick” the man.

The suspects took the cash from the wallet and the victim’s pocket and left the area.

It wasn’t long after the robbery occurred, but before it was reported that a police officer stopped Garcia as a suspicious individual. Garcia told the officer his name and provided his place of residence. Garcia told the officer he had been attacked while walking to a friend’s house.

After the report of the robbery was made and a suspect description provided, the officer recognized Garcia as the likely responsible individual. Officers went to his residence and took him into custody. He was subsequently identified by the victim as one of the robbers.

No information on the second suspect was available.
