Man hospitalized after swallowing bag of meth

POSTED April 4, 2014 7:18 p.m.

A Turlock man nabbed for trespassing on Monday was in handcuffs again on Wednesday for multiple charges, including fighting with Turlock Police officers.

Following his arrest Wednesday, the suspect, Richard Oboyle, 41, had to be taken to Emanuel Medical Center because he swallowed a bag of methamphetamine, according to the Turlock Police Department.

Around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday TPD received several reports of a suspicious person in the area of Geer and Tuolumne roads. Some of the callers stated the man, later identified as Oboyle, was hiding in the bushes and saying someone was going to shoot him.

As soon as officers arrived at the scene Oboyle took off running. The officers caught Oboyle, but he continued to fight with them, prompting one officer to use a Taser on Oboyle.

During his failed attempt to avoid arrest, Oboyle ingested the bag of methamphetamine that was allegedly in his possession.

This was not Oboyle’s first arrest this week. Around 3 p.m. Sunday the police department received calls of a man trespassing in the backyards of homes in the 1700 block of N. Denair Avenue. Oboyle also ran in that encounter with officers, but was apprehended and charged with resisting arrest and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Wednesday’s arrest led to Oboyle being charged with resisting arrest, assault, destruction of evidence, possession of methamphetamine, and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
