The GDI Insurance hosted safety fair is returning to Turlock with the KlaasKids Foundation.

The free CIG Insurance Community Safety Saturday is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 17 at 801 Geer Rd. It’s sponsored by Capital Insurance Group.

The event will have activities, demonstrations, and educational services designed to improve the safety and security of children, teens, families, and communities. Prizes, such as a Bluetooth headset, an emergency solar flashlight radio, and a roadside safety kit will be given away as well.

The KlaasKids Foundation will be at the event to present some new child-safety technology products including the Cocoon, a browser that utilizes the cloud to protect privacy and provide age-appropriate websites, and Polly’s Guardian Angel, a missing-child alert system for iPhone and Android. The foundation will also provide free digital photo identifications and fingerprinting for every child. Parents will receive a free DNA collection kit, child-safety tips, and a nine-point plan on what to do if a child disappears.

KlaasKids is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to stop crimes against children by providing education and knowledge to the general public, and by promoting partnerships with concerned citizens, the private sector, organizations, law enforcement, and legislators. The foundation was started by Marc Klaas whose daughter Polly was abducted and murdered 20 years ago.

"There is no one who does more to advocate for the rights and safety of children than the KlaasKids Foundation and we are proud to bring Marc Klaas once again to our event to provide free identification tools for children,” said Grant Davis, president of GDI Insurance Agency. “Last year, we served over 200 children at the KlaasKids Print-A-Thon.”

The safety fair will also feature a complimentary child car-seat safety inspection station operated by the Turlock Police Department, CHP and child car seat inspection technicians. At last year’s event, 43 vehicles were checked for proper child car-seat installation.

Community Safety Saturday will also feature the following attractions:

·       Turlock Police Department will bring a squad car and crime prevention information and will coordinate the child car-seat safety inspection station.
