History of Business: With the second annual Central Valley Brewfest coming to town this weekend at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds, Turlock’s own brewery, Sandude Brewing Co., will be serving up their cool, crisp ales and lagers for hundreds of beer lovers.

Opening the family-owned brewery three years ago, husband and wife John and Jeanette Freitas have seen grand success with Sandude Brewing Co. in not only Turlock but all over the Central Valley, serving their craft beers in communities such as Modesto, Merced, Sonora and Ripon.

With plans to eventually have Sandude Brewing Co. sold across the nation in 20 different states, Freitas says that the brewing company is set to expand greatly over the coming years.

“We’re branching out every day,” said Freitas, sharing that Sandude Brewing Co. will begin bottling their ales and lagers in a few weeks. “There are a lot of plans underway to expand the business. The idea is to first saturate California and then head east.”

Once the bottling process begins, Freitas says that Sandude Brewing Co.’s fine ales and lagers will be sold in stores such as Costco and Save Mart. Although the brewery’s products have yet to be made available in stores, many of their beers can be found on tap in most Turlock restaurants.

Freitas gained an instant passion for the art of brewing after spending an afternoon learning how to brew beer at home with a friend who ran his own home-brewery for over 20 years.

“The first time that I went over there and brewed with him, I remember telling him that day that I was going to open a brewery,” recalled Freitas. “It took about three years to put together, but we eventually got everything up and running, and opened Sandude Brewing Co.”

Sandude Brewing Co. brews various ales, lagers, Indian pale ales and other craft beers, including their Woody Brown Ale, Driftwood Lager, Suntan Blonde and Shades of Amber.

Type of Business: Brewery.
