Emanuel Cancer Center celebrated National Cancer Survivors' Day by serving up free Cold Stone Creamery ice cream sundaes to local survivors and their families on Wednesday.

"National Cancer Survivors' Day is a growing event as more people than ever are surviving the disease as a result of advances in prevention, early detection and treatment," said Michael Iltis, executive director of Emanuel Cancer Center. "There are nearly 14 million Americans living with a history of cancer, and we want to celebrate that."

Along with the free ice cream, survivors were treated to Dixieland jazz music and free gifts. Children of Emanuel's Monkey Business program were also on hand to enjoy the festivities. Monkey Business is a support group for children who have a family member diagnosed with cancer. The program offers a place for kids to share the myriad of feelings and fears they may experience when a loved one is diagnosed with cancer.
