POSTED June 4, 2014 12:29 a.m.

Announcing his candidacy on the night of the Primary Election, Turlock Planning Commissioner Mike Brem is joining the Mayoral race in November.

Having previously served as the Planning Commission Chair, and remaining actively involved in many community organizations, Brem has long been involved with the City of Turlock after moving from Gilroy in 1992. A graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Brem moved to Turlock to start SupHerb Farms, where he is employed as president.

Mike and his wife, Tina, have two grown sons and three grandchildren.

In response to Brem’s candidacy announcement, Mayoral candidate and local farmer Gary Soiseth expressed optimism about the upcoming race, saying he hoped that the two candidates can work together for the betterment of Turlock.

“Mike and I spoke after I announced my candidacy and we have much that we agree on, but some that we don't,” explained Soiseth. “He is a man of integrity and he will keep his campaign focused on the issues.”

“This race is about the future of Turlock,” continued Soiseth. "I look forward to a healthy debate with Mike in the coming months."

Brem could not be reached for comment as of Tuesday evening.
