Seadogs lap up win in tri meet

POSTED June 5, 2014 7:00 p.m.

Three of the top summer swimming programs took to the pool this weekend in a tri meet at Ripon High. In a very critical meet between Turlock, Ripon and Tracy, the Turlock Seadogs were the ones to come out victors after pulling away with a big lead.

By the day’s conclusion, the Seadogs would tally up a total of 695 points as opposed to Ripon’s Sea Lions 471 total, while Tracy finished last at 376.

“Our second meet of the year was against our biggest rivals and in a tri meet. When it comes to tri meets there are more opportunities for your kids to not get those top eight spots which are critical,” said Seadogs head coach Michaela Solario.

Across all events with the ages ranging from 6 to 18, the Seadogs managed to sink 51 first place finishes and numerous top eight finishes.

After taking the Tracy Invitational by storm the previous meet, the Seadogs were looking for another upside outcome and by the end of the day they would be crowned the winners.

“When coming off of a big victory at Tracy we were worried to see if we could repeat the same thing on their turf,” said Solario.

With such a high number of top finishers, a handful managed to sneak away with multiple top place finishes.

Taylor Jarvis on the girls’ side took two first place and two second place finishes across all four events which included first in the 200 yard free relay and the 50 breast. The 50 and 100 yard free were the second place results.

For the boys, Nathan Olson topped out with four first place finishes in the 100 yard, fly, breast, individual medley and the 200 free relay.

Zach Glidden took first in the 100 back and second in the 50 free and 100 individual medley.

“The kids had a great day. Swam well and we even had some personal bests. This meet was totally a team effort. Very proud of them all, and we are taking it one meet at a time, but it is looking better and better each week,” Solario added.
