A Turlock Police Officer following up on a possible burglary spotted the suspected criminal at the scene of the crime a day later. The chance run-in resulted in a short pursuit that ended when Isidro Munoz, 28, drove his stolen truck into a car on Tuolumne Road Sunday evening.

Munoz's run-in with the law began when a woman called the police on Saturday to report that she had returned to a home she was moving out of on Joett Drive to find Munoz inside. The woman gave officers the license plate number of the Dodge pickup Munoz was driving, which officers determined was stolen out of Ceres, said Turlock Police Sgt. Stephen Webb.

When Munoz decided to return to the Joett Drive house on Sunday, a Turlock Police officer was just driving up and spotted the stolen pickup, said Webb. The pursuit followed, west on Joett and then north on Tully Road. When Munoz turned onto Tuolumne Road, he collided head on with a Honda sedan.

The driver of the Honda suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, said Webb.

The collision did not stop Munoz from continuing his flight, as he led officers on a foot chase in the surrounding neighborhood, according to Webb.

At one point, Munoz turned and tried to fight the officers. A Taser was used to subdue Munoz and he was taken into custody.  It was also determined that Munoz — who initially gave officers the false name of Miguel Flores —was under the influence of methamphetamine.

Munoz was charged with felony evading, resisting arrest, possession of a stolen vehicle and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
