Stanislaus names 54 athletes to All-Academic honors

A total of 54 California State University, Stanislaus Warriors are among the record total of 567 student-athletes named to the California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic for the 2013-14 academic year.

This award is given to the most elite student-athletes who not only show success on the field of their respective sport but also go beyond that and provide great success in the classroom as well.

The total awarded increased by 54 from last year’s total of 513 recipients for the CCAA.

UC San Diego led all schools for the ninth straight year with 83 student-athletes receiving honors, followed by Cal State Monterey Bay with 62 Chico State with 58.

Cal State Stanislaus and Cal State East Bay recorded the largest increase among all 12 institutions with an additional 12 student-athletes named to the 2013-14 list.

Stanislaus also ranked fourth amongst the dozen schools in total number of student-athletes.

For student-athletes to be eligible, one must meet certain criteria, which includes earning a varsity letter.

Second, the individuals must be a student-athlete in one of the 12 CCAA-sponsored sports: men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s golf, men’s and women’s outdoor track and field along with baseball and softball.

The third requirement is that each student-athlete must earn a grade point average of 3.40 or higher in a minimum of 24 semester/36 quarter units completed at the certifying institution.

Finally, no graduate students are eligible for the CCAA All-Academic Awards.
