Status of 2014 drought conditions

Status of 2014 drought conditions

POSTED August 8, 2014 6:20 p.m.

According to US Drought Monitor, approximately 35 percent of the country is experiencing drought conditions. California in particular is suffering from severe to exceptional stages of drought caused by high pressure air blocking storms from moving our way. As these conditions worsen and we struggle through this run of historically dry weather, we see further declines in reservoir levels, dustier air, and thirstier lawns.

Although it is too early to predict what type of weather we will experience in coming months, it is evident that we need a very wet winter and several large storm events to improve these dry conditions and water shortages. Until then, local water agencies and communities across California continue to take action to reduce water use and step up conservation efforts to help protect future water supply. Please do your part! For questions or additional information, please contact Municipal Services at 209-668-5590.
