Marilyn Rose Davenport/Morrett

POSTED August 19, 2014 4:49 p.m.

Marilyn Davenport passed away peacefully in Turlock on July 31st after a brave battle with lung disease. She was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN, then moved to California in 1950 upon marrying Henry Morrett and earning her nursing degree. She worked in hospitals for 19 years and another 10 years as an aerospace industry nurse in southern California. She highly valued her work as an ER nursing supervisor and enjoyed the variety of patients she served. She raised her two beloved sons, Hal and Bryan, mostly as a single mother, following the premature death of Henry in 1961. In 1988, Marilyn married a wonderful man named Harvey Davenport and they settled happily in Nevada City, CA.  Upon the loss of Harvey a few years later, she moved to Turlock to be closer to her grandchildren and family.

Wherever she was, Marilyn was always very active in her church; most recently with Hughson United Methodist in their choir and chime choir. She enjoyed keeping the music and robes organized and was an enthusiastic musician. Marilyn was a skilled quilter and enjoyed teaching her grandchildren and others the fabric arts. With her gifted hands, she created many special heirlooms that will be treasured for generations to come. Marilyn liked being a member of the Friends of the Library and played cards with her friends on a regular basis. She passed her love of strategy games on to her grandchildren, teaching each of them how to play chess.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Jeanette Donaldson of Minneapolis; her two husbands, Henry and Harvey; her brother, Forrest and her sister, Gladys; and her sons, Hal and Bryan. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Bette Donaldson, of Fort Collins, CO; her daughter-in-law, Carol Morrett, and three grandchildren Katherine, Zachary, and Michael Morrett, all of Hughson; her step sons, Larry and Lynn Davenport, of California and Maine, respectively, and their families; and her nieces and nephews in Colorado and Minnesota. A celebration of life will take place at 11:00 AM September 6th 2014 at Hughson United Methodist Church, 6th St. and Fox Rd., Hughson, ph. 883-4952.
