Assistance sought in teen’s death

A 17-year-old boy who was shot in Modesto last week, died from his wounds and investigators are seeking the public’s help to identify the suspects.
The teen was identified as Marcus Christian Alvarez. He died Saturday, two days after he was shot.
The shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. Jan. 21 in the 1800 block of Bonanza Way in Modesto. Officers were responding to calls of shots fired when they found Alvarez wounded in the street.
“Detectives are continuing with their investigation and are seeking the public’s assistance in obtaining any information about this shooting,” Modesto Police spokesman Officer Scott Nelson said in a news release. “Any leads, witness statements, or information received may help to locate the suspects responsible for this 17-year-old shooting victim’s death.”
The fatal shooting is Modesto’s first homicide of 2010.

Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward. Tipsters can also text information to Crime Stoppers by sending a text message to 274637.
