Prison time for auto theft

POSTED February 2, 2010 10:56 p.m.
Two women caught in a stolen vehicle were each sentenced to 16 months in prison — one for auto theft and the other for possession of stolen property.
Mayra Viveros, 23, of Turlock and Kandice Rae Hoffman, 20, of Modesto were both arrested on Nov. 3, 2009, after they were stopped in Modesto by the Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force. The 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck Viveros was driving had been reported stolen on Oct. 24, 2009, out of the driveway of a Turlock home.
According to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office, Viveros claimed a friend gave her the truck, but she had no contact information for him.
Hoffman was a passenger in the truck and officers found stole identification and credit cards in her pocket.
On Jan. 25, Viveros was convicted of auto theft and Hoffman was found guilty of possession of stolen property. Both women were sentenced to 16 months in prison.
