All Turlock High had to do to beat Atwater High on Thursday was show up to the Turlock Golf and Country Club with a complete team. With only four golfers, the Falcons were forced to forfeit to the Bulldogs in the third Central California Conference match of the season.

But while Turlock didn't have to actively compete against Atwater to extend their league record to 3-0, its boys still posted a team score of 423 strokes as they continued their efforts to chase down the CCC leader Buhach Colony High.

“That's a pretty good score for us. I'm happy with what we did as a team today. We're just continuing to try and get better each time. We're young. We lost Teo (Chiesa) from last year, so we're trying to be more of a solid team all the way down, which I think we've got,” Turlock head coach Jason Boswell said. “Buhach in the league this year has got probably the strongest team they've had in their school history. So we're trying to compete with them right now, they're posting really low scores.”

The Bulldogs are now prepping for the CCC Mid-season Tournament where they will get the chance to see their stiffest competition, Buhach Colony and Pitman High, up close and see how they compare. Boswell is hoping his boys can lower their team score to 410 strokes in order to stand a chance in their head-to-head match with the Thunder on April 16.

“It'll be nice to see where we're at, where we stack up,” Boswell said. “We're just going to continue to make strides towards where we think we can be and where we should be.”

“From here on out everything counts,” he added.

Turlock will compete in Monterey on Monday before heading to the CCC Mid-season Tournament at Rancho Del Rey on April 2.

“You play a match, and if you play your best golf, you give yourself a chance to win. And that's all I can ask for from these guys,” Boswell said.
