It’s that time of year when all things spooky and creepy arrive and that includes Playhouse Merced’s latest production.

The Merced theatre troupe will make the dead rise again in their adaption of George A. Romero's “Night of the Living Dead, Live.”

The adaption is mostly live action, but has some film elements. It also features a slightly comedic twist on the classic horror tale of the undead.

In the story, seven strangers find themselves taking refuge at a farmhouse when zombies start roaming the countryside in search of their next meal. The strangers must join together if they are going to fight off the hungry horde.

Romero’s horror classic “Night of the Living Dead” has been inspiring nightmares since its 1968 debut.

“Night of the Living Dead, Live” is directed by Joe Hypes and stars GB Blackmon as Ben, Bridget Mitchell as Barbara, RC Essig as Harry Cooper, Dianne Kocher as Helen Cooper, Ryan Dziadosz as Chief McClelland and Travis Walsh as Vince   Zombie make-up provided and designed by Zane-It.

The show is rated “M” for mature audiences.

“Night of the Living Dead, Live” opens Oct. 23 and plays two weekends through Nov. 1.

Tickets prices are $10 for students and $15 to $22, for adults, depending on section.

Show times are at 7:30 p.m. for Friday and Saturday shows and 2 p.m. Sunday. Playhouse Merced will offer two performances on Oct. 31, one at 7:30 p.m. and one at 10:30 p.m.

Tickets may be purchased by going online at www.playhousemerced.com, by calling 725-8587, or visiting the box office at 452 West Main Street in downtown Merced, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
