The Turlock Concert Association is bringing the San Francisco Munich Trio to town for a concert on March 12 at the Turlock Community Theatre.

The San Francisco Munich trio is comprised of husband and wife couple Friedrich Edelmann and Rebecca Rust and Eric Tran.

Rust on violoncello, and Friedrich Edelmann on bassoon, have played chamber music together for over 30 years. In 2015 they performed at more than 70 concerts in venues across the world, with one of the most memorable being in the Imperial Palace in Tokyo for Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, after which, Rust played with Empress Michiko on the piano.

Edelmann grew up in Kaiserslautern, Germany. From 1977 to 2004 he was the Principal Bassoonist of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. He was a member of the “Nagano Winter Orchestra” under Seiji Ozawa with opening concerts of the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. He has won several first prizes in German national competitions.

Rust, a California native, began piano lessons at the age of five and cello lessons at the age of nine. She was a prizewinner in several prestigious competitions. She performed with the Christmas String Orchestra and the Lenox Quartet, and was solo cellist of the “Orchestre Mondiale des Jeunesses Musicales.” Rust plays a Master-Cello by William Forster (1791), formerly owned by Prince Charles.

Rust and Edelmann will be joined on stage by Tran, who is a San Francisco based pianist and composer. He is a graduate of Stanford University and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music; he has won concerto competitions of both institutions and the prestigious Robert M. Golden Medal for outstanding contributions to the arts. His compositions have been performed by the St. Lawrence String Quartet and the Friction Quartet.

The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 12. Single tickets for this event are $25 for adults, and $15 for students through high school. For tickets, subscriptions, or further information, call Ruth Cunningham at 634-0788 or Eric Julien at 667-5874, or visit http://www.turlockconcert.org/tickets.php .  Tickets and subscriptions will also be available at the door.
