Trucker implicated in multiple molestations

POSTED July 3, 2009 5:29 p.m.

A former Modesto resident suspected of molesting several children was taken into custody Wednesday by the Modesto Police Department.
Richard Alan Cundy, 51, of Miles City, Mont., was booked on suspicion of child molestation in connection to a 2006 investigation, according to Sgt. Brian Findlen.

Detectives from the Modesto Police Department Special Victims Unit arrested Cundy after a 9-year-old female victim came forward to report being victimized at the hands of Cundy in 2006.

During the investigation Cundy was never located and was believed to have fled the state. On Wednesday detectives received a tip that Cundy, who works as a truck driver, was in town for a short stop along his trucking route. He was taken into custody at a house on Hermosa Avenue, Findlen said.

During the investigation detectives located four additional victims ranging in age from nine to 17 and will be conducting a follow-up to determine if any additional individuals had been abused at the hands of Cundy, Findlen said.

“There is a possibility that Cundy has been doing this for over 30 years,” said Detective Eric Jones.
Detectives ask anyone with information about this case to contact Detective Jones at 572-9500.
