Juvenile arrested for robbery

POSTED September 9, 2016 10:15 p.m.

A man who gave a ride to two teenagers to a Turlock park became the victim of a robbery when one of them tried to steal his car, according to the Turlock Police Department.

The man, who is in his mid 60s, was asked by two teenage boys Monday afternoon for a ride from the Save Mart on Lander Avenue to Crane Park. The man obliged, but when he got to the park one of the boys tried to take his car, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Steve Rodrigues.

One boy demanded the man hand over the keys to the car and when he declined the boy grabbed them from the ignition, which set off the car alarm, Rodrigues said. With the alarm blaring the two boys ran from the park onto the Turlock High School campus.

The victim told police that he thought he saw the handle of a pistol poking out of the waistband of one of the suspect’s pants.

There were no classes at the campus because of the holiday.

Officers saturated the area, but did not locate either of the suspects.

Around 4:30 p.m. the police department received information that the two suspects had been seen in the 2000 block of E. Canal Drive and responded to the area. Both teens were located and detained.

A 17-year-old boy was charged with robbery, while the other teen was released without being placed under arrest. No weapon was found.
