Arrest made in Turlock knife attack

Travis Shepherd

POSTED April 13, 2017 6:21 p.m.

A Turlock man is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly plunging a knife into a man’s neck during a dispute.

The suspect was identified by the Turlock Police Department as Travis Shepherd, 34, of Turlock. He was taken into custody following the Wednesday incident and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail. He is currently being held without bail, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department records.

The victim, a 30-year-old Turlock man, was transported to an area hospital and currently is in stable condition, said Turlock Police spokesperson Sgt. Neil Cervenka.

The incident was first reported to the police department shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday when they received a report of a physical altercation in the 100 block of Almond Avenue.

The first officers arrived to find the victim with a life-threatening injury to his neck and began first-aid.

It’s unknown what led up to the stabbing, but the victim was able to provide investigators with enough of a description that they were able to spot Shepherd in the nearby vicinity.

Officers also located the knife Shepherd is suspected of using, Cervenka said.

Shepherd was questioned by detectives and later charged with attempted murder.
