POSTED April 14, 2017 11:26 p.m.

An armed suspect is still at large after a man was shot in west Turlock Friday night.

Turlock Police were called to the 800 block of Columbia Avenue at approximately 6:45 p.m. Friday for a man who had been shot. When they arrived, officers found a 33-year-old man who had sustained non-life threatening gunshot injuries and an armed suspect who was running west from the scene.

The police asked residents in the nearby area to stay inside and lock their doors and windows while a yard-to-yard search was conducted. The search encompassed the one block area of West Main Street, Davis Avenue, Columbia Avenue and Radio Street. A Turlock K9 unit and a Stanislaus County Sheriff’s helicopter was used in the search.

Officers did not locate the suspect, but did recover a firearm. It’s unknown if the weapon was used in the assault.

The shelter in place advisory for the west Turlock area was lifted at 10:30 p.m.

The shooting victim was transported to an area hospital and was in stable condition as of late Friday night, according to the police.

The suspect is described as a tall, thin Hispanic man in his 30s with a light-colored goatee, green eyes and dark clothing. He is considered armed and dangerous.  If anyone in that area observes anything suspicious or sees a subject matching the description, they should call 9-1-1.
