Bulldog baseball end Mark Dickens Invitational 2-1

The Mark Dickens Baseball Invitational ended well for the Turlock High varsity baseball team after concluding the tournament on Wednesday with a win and loss that gave them a 2-1 record for the tournament.

The Bulldogs started the day with a 3-1 win over MMC’s Beyer but followed their day with a loss at the hands of Tokay, 6-3.

Bryce Lockermiller started Beyer’s game and went six innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits with a pair of walks and five strikeouts.

Kayleb Becerra came in to relief and pitched one inning with a walk and a pair of strikeouts.

Freshman Tyler Soderstrom was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Aaron Hayner and Chris Steeley each had two hits while Mason King scored one of the three runs for the game.

Turlock came right back after the win, but one inning led to the loss after Tokay tacked on four runs in the second inning and they never looked back.

The Bulldogs scored a run in the top of the fifth, but by the start of the sixth, Tokay already led 6-1.

Tokay outhit Turlock 8-7 for the game.

Combined, all three Turlock pitchers went six innings and allowed six earned runs, three walks and struck out six.

Turlock’s overall record goes to 10-5.

The next game for Turlock will be on the road to take on Golden Valley at 4 p.m. Monday.
