POSTED March 23, 2010 11:34 p.m.
Cal State Stanislaus shot a tournament-low 279 as a team in Tuesday's final round as the Warriors rallied from down seven strokes to over-take Chico State to win the NDNU Argonaut Invitational in Livermore.
Warrior sophomore Trevor Blair finished his brilliant play with a three-under 69 Tuesday to finish second with a seven-under 209, his collegiate career best three-round score.
The 16th ranked Warriors entered Tuesday's play behind No. 3 Chico State by seven shots (581 to 574), but three under par scorecards helped Stanislaus to a team score of 279 as the Warriors beat the Wildcats by five. Chico State shot a 291 as team on Tuesday.
"We are finally starting to gel as a team and everyone's playing consistent now," Stanislaus coach John Cook said. "Trevor had two great days and the other guys stepped up as well."
The win is the Warriors' second team victory this spring and it is also the third time in four tournaments that the team has finished second or better. In these four spring tournaments, a Warrior has either won the event or finish second three times.
Blair started the tournament on Monday with an even-par 72 and shot a strong four-under in round two. He capped off the career-best tournament with a three-under in the finale to finish just a shot back of individual medalist Scott Yeakel of Cal State Monterey Bay.
Cal State Monterey Bay finished third (871), followed by Grand Canyon (879) and Western Washington (886).
Also continued to play well for the Warriors is Brandon Taylor, who notched his fourth top 10 finish this spring. At NDNU, Taylor shot a 215 to finish tied for fourth.
Freshman Joseph Stewart turned in his first under-par score as a collegiate golfer with a 70 on Tuesday to finish tied for 15th with a 220 total. Teddy Schrier, who has been battling the flu all last week, bounced back from a 85-74 on Monday to card a 68 in round three. J.T. Cockerill rounded out the Stanislaus scoring with a 227 total.
