Seadogs take second at Tracy Invitational

POSTED June 9, 2017 7:04 p.m.

The Turlock Seadogs summer youth swim program just missed capturing their fifth straight Tracy Invitational this past weekend, finishing in second place despite a number of standout swimmers on both the girls and boys side.

Of the six teams that competed, the Ripon Sea Lions (745) prevailed while the Turlock Seadogs took second with a 499 score. Third was Tracy Tritons with 378.5.

"The finish is a huge deal because it allows the coaches and the team to see where we stand amongst the league," said Seadogs coach Erich Richter. "We have incredibly talented teams in our league and I felt that our swimmers rose to the challenge and exceeded our expectations for the first meet of the year."

In 53 events, the Seadogs had 19 first or second place finishes.

"The coaching staff was ecstatic with the results," said Richter. "Our team stepped up and performed amazingly. I believe that every one of our swimmers on this team that attended the meet performed to the best of their abilities and this is all we expect. Coach Michaela and I always tell our swimmers during the meet that the only person you are racing against is yourself."

One of the Seadogs’ top overall performances was a second-place finish in the Mixed 6 and Under 100-yard Medley Relay.

For the girls 9 through 10 age group, the 'Dogs took second after the team of Mia Ngo, Stella Dorsey, Kaylee Amarant and Avery Ahlem clocked in a time of 2:40.05.

In the girls 13-14 age group, Maddy Ngo of the Seadogs took second in the 100-yard Individual Medley with a time of 1:12.50.

On the boy side, the 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18 age groups took first in the 200-yard Medley Relays in their respective divisions.

Cohen Harris placed second in the 11-12 age group in the 100 IM with a time of 1:18.89.

The Seadogs also saw another first-place result in the 100 IM when Noah Cossey took first in the 13-14 age group with a time of 1:07.96.

Nolan Lok (15) took second in the 100 IM with a time of 1:01.72 and placed first in the 100 Fly with a time of 58.27.

Diego Armas (12) and Aiden Braley took second and third respectively in the 100-yard Free. They also had the same result in the 50 Fly.

Cossey (14) and Cesar Flores (13) took first and second, respectively, in the 100 Free. Cossey also placed first in the 50 Fly with a time of 29.45.

"We believe that no one underperformed," said Richter. "We have a great team that works hard every day at practice and strives to better themselves and strive to work together as a team. Our swimmers earned every point by working hard and they earned a second-place finish.”

Next for the Seadogs will be a road match with Ripon at 8 a.m. Saturday.
