Jean S. Lytle

March 28, 1927 — March 19, 2010

POSTED March 26, 2010 10:51 p.m.
Jean Schaar Lytle was born March 28, 1927, in Athens, Penn. to Pearl Benson Schaar and John Homer Schaar. She passed away peacefully on March 19 after succumbing to a brief illness.
Those lucky enough to have known Jean will remember her for her kindness and warmth, and her absolute undying love and devotion for her family. She was also known for her amazing and eclectic cooking, beautiful garden, her sharp wit and wonderful, keen sense of humor.
Jean attended Lycoming College, earning her BS in biology, where she met Mark, her loving husband of 62 years. In her college days Jean was an accomplished athlete who excelled at tennis, water polo and field hockey. After college, she worked for many years in microbiology research for various laboratories.
Those accomplishments, however, are overshadowed by her greatest achievement: Being an incredible mother to three children and the best wife
a man could ever want.
She is survived by her husband, Mark; children, Judi, Scott and Tim; grand- children, Maile, Shane and Holly; brother, John Homer Schaar II; nephew, Johnny; and nieces, Gina and Lisa. Jean was preceded in passing by her sister, Ruth Schaar.
Jean loved children, music, flowers, animals, movies, travel, mountains and cooking, but her greatest love was for her family and her many friends. She wrote the following on Dec. 26, 2009, as a summary of her life and loves: "Love your family and friends — keep them close. Love your country. Review the progress I have seen over the last eighty years — dedicate yourselves to make it continue." There will be a private family celebration of Jean's life.
Allen Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
