The Turlock City Council proclaimed July as Parks and Recreation Month and held a special meeting Tuesday at Crane Park.

According to Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities Director Allison Van Guilder, in 2016, 21,000 individuals participated in the City’s many recreation programs and 50,000 used Turlock’s sports complex or other facilities.

“We know that we’re making an impact in the community,” said Van Guilder. “We’ll continue to work hard to make a difference.”

Mayor Gary Soiseth praised all of the staff members who keep the City’s parks and public spaces clean and safe on a daily basis.

Before the special meeting, kids from the City’s Summer Camp program played lawn games at Crane Park and the City served grilled hotdogs.
