The Denair Gaslight Theater is getting ready to bring up the curtain on their production of “The Importance of Being Earnest.”

Written by Oscar Wilde and first staged in 1895 at the St James's Theatre in London, “The Importance of Being Earnest” is a farcical comedy in which the protagonists maintain fictitious personas to escape burdensome social obligations.

The cast of six is made up of seasoned actors as well as individuals taking to the stage for the first time, like Lenora Gomes, who portrays Lady Bracknell.

“Now is the time, and the Gaslight Theater is the perfect place. I am enjoying every minute,” Gomes said of her decision to join the cast.

Sophie Kanabay, who has performed in other Gaslight productions, has enjoyed the experience of delving into her character, Gwendolyn Fairfax.

“I’m allowed to push myself to find the character, and I love that,” Kanabay said.

The show also stars Trey Augustus as Jack Worthing and Haley Paulissian as Cecily Cardew.

“It’s exciting to see our community coming together to produce high quality theater for all to enjoy,” said Anissa Stonebarger, a member of the Gaslight’s board of directors.  “We are looking forward to a successful run of the show. The director and cast have worked diligently to make this a classic production you won’t soon forget.”

An opening night reception is planned for 6 p.m. Sept. 8, with the show starting at 7 p.m. Additional shows are set for 7 p.m. Sept. 9, 15, and 16 and 2 p.m. Sept. 10.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for students and seniors. Guests can may reserve tickets by going to www.showtix4u.com or call 664-9514.
