POSTED September 18, 2017 10:40 a.m.

Friday, September 8th 2017, Douglas Leroy Bacon left this earth after a long illness. He was 81 years old.

Douglas was born in Denver, Colorado and came to California as an infant. He attended grammar and high school in Turlock, where he met and married his only wife, Shirley Geren, raising four children together from their union.

Douglas was a hard worker. He was employed by the Turlock Irrigation District for 30 years as a ditch tender while also working as a dairy farmer on his own ranch that he was building at the same time.

Mr. Bacon enjoyed gardening his vegetables in his spare time and taking care of his fruit trees as well as growing a variety of roses which was his favorite flower. He also loved animals, especially dogs, and was a supporter of the Animal Humane Society.

He was also involved with a charity group for the American Indian Children Association.

Doug was strong, caring and soft spoken for the most part. He was also a man of few words. His presence will be missed by those who knew and loved him most.

He is survived by his four children; Penny (Joe) Mendes of Crows Landing, Tuesday (Patrick) Gadeyne of Courbevoie, France, Kitty (Ken) Holm of Turlock, Steven Bacon of Turlock. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at Allen Mortuary. Viewing: Monday, 18 September 5:00 to 7:00pm. Chapel service: Tuesday, 19 September at 10:00am with burial following in Turlock Memorial Park.
