POSTED October 3, 2017 8:26 p.m.

The Turlock Police Department is searching for an armed car thief who was interrupted in his theft Friday night.

The police department was notified of the attempted theft Friday evening.

The suspect was trying to steal a vehicle in the 100 block of S. Walnut Road, when the owner of the vehicle and another individual came out to the parking lot and confronted the would-be thief.

The suspect brandished a silver revolver at the two individuals before running away from the scene.

The witness followed the suspect and saw him get into a waiting vehicle nearby. Someone else was driving the car. The suspect left the area before police arrived.

The suspect was described as a white male adult, standing about 5 feet 11 to 6 feet tall with a thin build. He has a tattoo near his left eye and tattoos on his arm. He was wearing blue jeans.

The vehicle the suspect fled in was described as a small, green 4-door vehicle.

Police are hoping video surveillance will shed more light as to the suspect’s identity.
