History of business:

The Tri Tipery of Ballico fame has brought its flavorful menu to Turlock, courtesy of a temporary “pop-up” location at the Turlock Turf Club.

For the next six weeks, The Tri-Tipery will operate out of the Turf Club and serve up its signature sandwiches, burgers and salads. According to the pop-up location’s manager Freddie Nuno, Turlock residents have been driving to Ballico for The Tri-Tipery’s tender meat selection since they opened just a year ago.

“We were thinking, ‘Well, we do have a lot of people from there that come to Ballico, so how would we fare if we went to Turlock?’” said Nuno. “Our whole goal is to just get our name out there.”

The tri-tip, chicken, bacon and other meats cooked at The Tri-Tipery is smoked with oak and mesquite firewood, which gives it a distinct flavor, said Nuno. The savory cuts are then used on sandwiches like the French Dip, or on sides such as the Loaded Fries.

The pop-up location opened its doors Sept. 30 and is expected to run for 45 days. The first few days of business have been busy, said Nuno, though the nearby construction at the intersection of Fulkerth Road and Golden State Boulevard has made attracting more customers difficult. Cross-promoting with the Ranch of Horror, held at the nearby fairgrounds, has helped however.

“People still don’t know we’re out here,” said Nuno. “We want to let people know what The Tri-Tipery is and what we have to offer.”

“Our taste is a little different than other tri tip shops, but once people try it it’s hard to stop coming back.”
