Speeding, trailing too close causes fatal wreck

POSTED October 17, 2017 3:43 p.m.

A Turlock man was arrested by the California Highway Patrol for voluntary manslaughter after allegedly causing a collision that claimed the life of a Delhi man.

The deceased was identified as Gary Bucol, 55, of Delhi.

Arrested was Edgardo Reynoso, 23, of Turlock on suspicion of voluntary manslaughter and felony hit and run involving injury and/or death, said CHP spokesperson Officer Thomas Olsen.

Reynoso was driving a 2009 GMC southbound on Highway 165, north of E. Clausen Road, around 2 a.m. Sunday. He was traveling at a high rate of speed when he struck the rear end of a 2011 SPCN motorcycle driven by Bucol, according to the CHP.

The collision caused Bucol to be ejected onto the roadway, where he was struck by 2004 Chevrolet, driven by Pedro Vieira of Turlock and a 2017 Jeep, driven by Alicia Daine of Hilmar.

Emergency personnel found Bucol lying in the road. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Reynoso sustained minor injuries from the crash. He was wearing a seat belt, according to the CHP.

The other two drivers were not injured.

It’s unknown if alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the collision. According to Stanislaus County Superior Court records, Reynoso had two recent citations for speeding.

The investigation remains ongoing.
