Family pets die in Turlock blaze

Turlock firefighters battle a blaze at a home in the 1900 block of Victoria Court on Wednesday morning.

POSTED November 30, 2017 1:56 p.m.

A Turlock family lost two of their pets after a fire raced through their home Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out around 9 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the 1900 block of Victoria Court.

The first crews from the Turlock Fire Department arrived to find all the residents safe and out of the home. However, the family dog, Bella, and a pet bird, Hope, did not survive the house fire.

Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames billowing throughout the majority of the home.  A defensive fire attack was immediately initiated, allowing crews to contain the large fire to the residence and preventing any damage to the neighboring homes and structures.

“Crews immediately encountered extreme fire conditions upon arrival and did a great job of controlling the blaze, despite being shorthanded early on,” said Acting Turlock Fire Chief Gary Carlson. “At the time of dispatch to the fire call, all four engines were either en-route to or already on-scene at other emergency calls.”

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.

Turlock Fire responded with three engines, Squad 32, the Fire Marshal, and one battalion chief. Ceres and Modesto Fire Departments provided mutual aid with two engines and one battalion chief while Turlock Rural Fire provided City coverage.
Fire crews remained on scene until approximately 12:30 p.m. to perform overhaul and conduct an investigation.
Any information regarding this investigation can be addressed by contacting the Fire Marshal at 669-2129.
