Turlock man killed in Highway 108 crash

POSTED January 18, 2018 4:47 p.m.

A Turlock man died in a head-on collision with a flatbed truck Thursday morning while driving on Highway 108 in Knights Ferry.

The deceased was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Zachary Moore, 20, of Turlock.

The collision happened around 8:30 a.m. on Highway 108, west of Kennedy Road.

Moore was driving a 2001 Infinity sedan westbound on the highway and was approaching a bend to the right in the roadway. For an unknown reason, the Infinity entered the eastbound lane, where it struck a 2015 Dodge flatbed truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The two vehicles collided head-on, causing major damage to both.

Moore was pronounced dead at the scene. The CHP said he was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Dodge flatbed, Christian Prado, 30, of Patterson sustained minor injuries from the collision and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A pit bull dog was found alive in the Infinity and was taken by Stanislaus County Animal Control.

The collision prompted a temporary closure of the highway in that area and traffic backed up for several miles before being rerouted.

It has yet to be determined if alcohol and/or drugs contributed to the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
