Salt-N-Pepa to spice up Stanislaus County Fair

Salt-N-Pepa, the pioneering female hip-hop act, will be coming to town on July 19 to perform at the Stanislaus County Fair.

With their hit songs, "Push It,” "Shoop," and "Whatta Man," Salt-N-Pepa broke barriers and opened doors for all future generations of women in hip-hop.

“Salt-N-Pepa are the icons and status quo-challengers who stirred the undeniable masculinity found in the rap industry,” said Adrenna Alkhas, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair. “Their dedication to female empowerment and great music are what will make this concert an unforgettable one.”

Salt-N-Pepa first formed in 1985 when New York City natives Cheryl James (Salt), Sandra Denton (Pepa) and Latoya Hanson began performing together, becoming the first all-female rap crew. Hanson left the group in 1987 and was replaced with Deidra Roper (DJ Spinderella). Their album “Hot, Cool & Vicious” with the hit song “Push It” would launch the group’s future success. In 1995, the group won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.

Salt-N-Pepa will be performing on the Bud Light Variety Free Stage at 8:30 p.m. July 19. The concert is free with the price of Fair admission. The 2018 Stanislaus County Fair opens July 13 for a 10-day run.
