The Modesto Junior College Department of Music presents the 41st Annual New Music Concert 7 p.m. April 13 in the Auditorium of the Performing and Media Arts Center on East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto.

The concert is open to the public and admission is free.  A reception is held in the Auditorium lobby following the performance.
The program will feature performances of original music compositions by student, faculty and local composers.
Performances include the award-winning compositions from the 41st annual MJC Celebration of the Humanities student arts contest.  Awards are presented in classical music, popular music, electronic music composition, classical music solo performance and popular music solo performance categories.
Sam Regalado of Boscoe’s Brood, and a history professor at the California State University, Stanislaus in Turlock, is slated to perform two of his original music compositions.
Jeff Crawford, music instructor at the University of the Pacific in Stockton is presenting his latest electronic music composition.
Guitarist and composer Rich Little will perform two new original music compositions.
David Dow, MJC professor of music, and coordinator and host of the concert, is performing his original electronic music compositions on the program.
Also playing an original group improvisation is the New Music Ensemble.
The New Music Concert was founded 41 years ago as a collaborative effort between MJC music instructor emeritus, Shirley Woodward and MJC music instructor David Dow to encourage students and faculty to create and perform new music. After creating the music, students would be able to enter their works in “The Manuscript Madness” composition contest and win cash prizes. The Manuscript Madness competition later became a part of the MJC Celebration of the Humanities Contest that is still going strong today.
