Russell was born in Dos Palos, Calif. to Everett and Dorothy Tolbert. He lived in the Merced area most of his life. He loved to cook and spent 11 years as a chef.
Russell leaves behind six children, Russell Tolbert Jr., Kenny Tolbert, Destiny Tolbert, Samantha Tolbert, Alexis Garcis and Monique Garcia. He also leaves behind sisters, Barbara Stoner and Cynthia Sequeira; and brothers, John Flanagan and Dave Tolbert.
