Turlockers had a bevy of leisure activities to choose from on Saturday and Sunday. The Turlock versus Pitman principal Iron Chef competition saw over 400 people show up to see who would reign supreme in the culinary match up on Saturday. The Pitman team, led by Principal Rod Hollars, took home first place - and $2,000 for their Culinary Arts program - for their dishes which featured chicken breast stuffed with fresh walnut/basil pesto, fontina cheese and prosciutto sautéed in olive oil and garlic accompanied with smashed red garlic potatoes and topped with fresh swiss chard. The Turlock Rotary Club hosted the fundraising event.

Also on Saturday,  Girl Scout troop #408 50 flower and shrub plants at the Turlock Animal Services shelter on Saturday. The troop used their earnings from cookie sales to buy plants and then rolled up their sleeves and planted the flowers and shrubs in the newly landscaped area at the shelter. This landscape project along with donations from community members enhances the field area where potential adopters meet with dogs while assessing them for adoption. The troop also collected over 200 pounds of pet food, litter and pet items to donate to the animals.

On Sunday, bicycle enthusiasts turned out for the Bicycle Safety Fair hosted by the Turlock Police Department. The downtown event featured contests for kids of all ages, free helmets and food.
