At this week's Central California Conference Tournament at Buhach Colony High in Atwater, the Turlock High boys tennis team produced a sweep of sorts.

Sophomore Scott Gray denied Golden Valley High's Morfuchi Lee's bid for back-to-back singles titles in a back-and-forth 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win. In the process, Gray also earned the league's MVP honors, which illustrated the type of day the Bulldogs had.

Also, senior Trevor Purdy and sophomore Michael Lazar defeated Merced High's Andrea Rigobello and Adam Rabago in the doubles finals, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 — wrapping up the Bulldogs' dominant run at the CCC tournament.

Purdy's effort earned him the sportsman award, complementing the league MVP award he received last season.

With their wins, Gray and the doubles team of Purdy and Lazar get to move on to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I Individual Championships at In-Shape Sports Club in Stockton. The tournament begins Wednesday, with the semifinals and finals to be held Friday.

Before then, the Bulldogs — the top seed in the CCC — will participate in the SJS Division I Tournament on Monday, facing No. 2 Tracy High of the San Joaquin Athletic Association at the Turlock High tennis courts at 3:30 p.m.

Pitman High will also compete in the playoffs, as the Pride, the No. 2 team in the CCC, will travel to St. Mary's High in Stockton to face the No. 1 seed in the Tri-City Athletic League. The match also starts at 3:30 p.m.

At the CCC tournament this week, both Pitman and Turlock received league recognitions.

Besides Gray securing the MVP honor, Pitman's Michael Davis and Turlock's Purdy and Lazar earned first-team honors in singles.

In doubles, Pitman's Jason Moitoso and Brandon Hamby were named the doubles MVPs, and Turlock's Grayson Blakely and Kevin Harris were first-team selections.
