Velma was born in October of 1917 in Echo, Minn. to William and Emma Luelf. Velma graduated from high school in Fleming, Colo., where her parents were farming. On Nov. 4, 1935, Velma married Roy Schachterle. Together she and Roy had a dairy farm near Windsor, Colo.; later they settled in Fort Collins, Colo. where they became long term residents and were active members of the First Assembly of God Church for 30 years. Velma taught children’s Sunday school classes for many years. She was a homemaker, and privately practiced reflexology. Shortly after moving to Turlock, Velma’s husband of 51 years passed away, in 1986.
Velma is survived by her children, Conrad Roy Schachterle of Turlock, and Marilyn Moore and Dean Schachterle, both of Fort Collins, Colo., and Mildred
Nicholas of Santa Ana, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Schachterle; six brothers; and one sister.
