Grant aids search and rescue

The Merced County Sheriff’s Department received a grant of more than $128,000 from the Laci and Conner Search and Rescue Fund.
The sheriff’s department used the funds to purchase 16 Rescue Packs for the underwater rescue and recovery team. Each pack includes: Swift water personal flotation devices, a water rescue helmet, SAR fins, spare air, an emergency response tool used for breaking glass and cutting seat belts and a backpack.
The bodies of water within Merced County that the team is currently responsible for are: The California Aqueduct, Delta Mendota Canal, San Luis Reservoir, O’Neill Forebay, Yosemite Lake, Lake Mc Swain, Merced River, San Joaquin River, Bear Creek and countless miles of canals and small creeks.
