Jogger killed in hit and run

POSTED July 23, 2010 11:35 p.m.

The California Highway Patrol is looking for the driver in a hit and run collision that left a 25-year-old woman dead.

The woman has been identified as Amy Lynn Freeseha of Copperopolis. She was out jogging with her 10-year-old niece when she was struck, said CHP spokesman Officer Eric Parsons.

Freeseha was jogging southbound on Langworth Road in northeast Modesto around 8:30 p.m. Thursday. According to her niece’s statement, Freeseha looked behind her and saw an oncoming vehicle and the pair moved onto the shoulder so the vehicle could pass by them.

For an unknown reason the driver of the vehicle traveled onto the shoulder and struck Freeseha, Parsons said.

The force of the impact flung Freeseha approximately 10 feet, Parsons said. She sustained fatal injuries from the collision and died at the scene.

The 10-year-old girl was not injured according to the CHP.

The vehicle fled the area and the only description the 10-year-old could get was that it was a white pickup. CHP officials later determined the vehicle is a white Suburban.

Parsons said the pickup would likely have damage to the right headlight and right side mirror and is missing a windshield wiper blade.

The collision is still under investigation. The CHP is asking that anyone with information regarding the driver of the vehicle call Officer Rubin Perez at 545-7440.
