Man shot to death in Modesto

POSTED July 23, 2010 11:36 p.m.

Detectives with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department are seeking the public’s help in solving the death of a 24-year-old Modesto man.

The victim, Roberto Sanchez, was shot Thursday night and investigators have developed few leads to follow.

The shooting occurred in the 300 block of Olivero Road at 8:52 p.m. Thursday, said sheriff spokesman Deputy Luke Schwartz.

Several calls were made to emergency dispatchers stating Sanchez had been shot near a row of volleyball courts at the end of the Olivero Road.

When deputies arrived they found Sanchez had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was unresponsive. Emergency personnel were unable to revive him, Schwartz said.

Witnesses told investigators that multiple vehicles were seen leaving the area in the aftermath of the shooting.

The sheriff’s department had no suspect, vehicle, or weapon descriptions to release.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Detective Darwin Hatfield at 525-7100 or Crime Stoppers at 521-4636. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and maybe eligible for a cash reward.
