Former Journal editor, university media professional retires

After nearly three decades of scribing the news and happenings in Turlock and those at the California State University, Stanislaus, public relations specialist and former journalist Don Hansen is laying down his pen.Hansen has spent the last 14 years in the media and public relations division at CSU Stanislaus. Over the years he has been a part of a public relations team that has elevated the university’s profile on the national level, helping it earn multiple features in the annual Princeton Review of best colleges.“Don Hansen has been one of the university’s most loyal, dedicated, and resilient staff members,” said Kristin Olsen, the university assistant vice president of communications and public affairs.  “He loves CSU Stanislaus and the Turlock community.  Don’s retirement is a loss for the university, and especially the Communications department, but I wish him all the best in his journeys that lie ahead.  I will truly miss him.”Most recently Hansen has been the writer for the university publications. Earlier this year he was honored by his peers at the Central Valley Public Relations Organization for the body of his work.Prior to joining the staff at CSU Stanislaus, Hansen was a reporter and editor for the Turlock Journal back when it was a daily paper. During his tenure, Hansen covered a myriad of stories from sports to city government.“Don has a tremendous breadth of experience,” said long time colleague and former Turlock Journal managing editor Bob Crawford. “He was a true old school newsman.“You could send Don to do anything and he’d come back and write a great story,” Crawford said.Hansen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from San Jose State.
