Burglary suspects carjack Modesto man

POSTED July 17, 2009 10:59 p.m.
A Modesto man was carjacked Thursday morning when he confronted a group of suspected car burglars.
The victim, a man in his 20s, said he heard a commotion outside his residence in the 500 block of Colfax Avenue around 2 a.m. Thursday.
When he went outside to investigate, he found that his car door was open and his personal belongings had been rifled through, said Modesto Police Sgt. Brian Findlen. He said he began driving around the neighborhood and he confronted a group of suspected burglars near Ada and Curry streets. He believed the group was responsible for the ransacking of his car and several others in the neighborhood, Findlen said.
The victim said he became involved in a fight with the first two suspects, and then at least three more appeared and assisted in the assault. The group of suspects were able to overcome the victim’s resistance and they ran to his vehicle which was nearby, Findlen said. They drove away in his vehicle leaving him behind. The victim suffered minor injuries and declined medical treatment.
The suspects are described as Hispanic males, 18 to 20 years old, and 5 feet, 7 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall.
The vehicle is a 2007 four-door Honda Accord, in stock condition, bearing a California plate of 6DJY032. The vehicle has not been found.
